Provide administrative support to the Utility Billing division by directing customers, explaining the Citys services, and generating utility account payment agreements. Essential Job Functions Assist customers in person and over the phone with various activities such as turning on/off and transferring of utility services, answer billing questions, and implementing payment plans for delinquent bills. Provide customer service to residential and commercial customers by answering inquiries over the phone and in-person and explaining utility services, rates and rules. Monitor consumption history on various accounts for irregularities and make statement adjustments as necessary. Process returned utility account statements. Ancillary Job Functions Prepare and maintain various utility account records in compliance with municipal procedures and regulations. Provide support to other Customer Service Representatives for the landlord reversion program. Complete other various clerical and data entry responsibilities as requested by the Utility Accounts & Billing Supervisor or other appropriate staff. Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered High school diploma or equivalent required. Some experience in accounting, billing, or customer service highly preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience necessary to perform the essential job functions is acceptable. Successful completion of City clerical exam and typing test prior to application deadline. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and basic office equipment/machines. Clear verbal communication skills and ability to give and follow written and oral instructions. Strong interpersonal skills in order to provide excellent customer service. Ability to perform basic math calculations for the purpose of processing payment agreements, reconciling accounts, etc. Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to work under general supervision and make responsible decisions. Strong sense of professionalism with addressing hostile or upset customers. Work Environment Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job General office conditions. Exposed to moderate noise levels.
