Shift: 2 (12 hr) shifts per week a€“ Day or Nights with rotating weekendsLocation: University HospitalDepartment: Emergency ServicesSalary Range: Salary commensurate with applicant's education and experienceJob Summary:Serve as the front line person for all incoming patients to ensure the connection between pre-hospital arrivals and the medical staff. Coordinate department activities, supplies and communication. Provide assistance to patients, families, visitors and staff to optimize customer services. Assist nursing staff in providing direct patient care from the admission process through patient transfer and discharge within Emergency Services.Detailed Description:Provide administrative and clerical support for the department to include: process emergency physician orders, including computer entry. Answer phones, direct calls and take messages for physicians, nurses and staff. Function as the resource person and department communicator such as knowing the location of staff, equipment and supplies. Maintain inventory and par levels of unit forms and general office supplies. Coordinate paperwork for the unit.Maintain accurate and timely entry of information into computerized bed-management system.Perform charge entry duties, collect patient and unit data as assigned.Assist in the coordination of emergencies and codes.Demonstrate the ability to organize workload and manage multiple tasks while maintaining a clutter free and orderly environment including prompt answering of unit telephones and accurate delivery of messages and information to patients, families, visitors, staff and personnel upon request.Educate and train new ESRs, students and other staff related to ESR activities and responsibilities.Maintain appropriate medical record and other forms needed during computer down time.Deliver/ pick up lab specimens and supplies from other departments.Coordinate and facilitate department activities to include: Promptly answer call lights using positive guest relations skills and notify appropriate staff. Monitor visitors in the department and alert staff to possible problems and security issues.Greet and direct patients, visitors and employees with courtesy and respect, address them professionally. Utilize the principles of Patient Family Centered Care.Promote and achieve satisfaction of internal customers. Effectively intercede with families and patients and resolve concerns if able, if not able consult with RN providing care to the patient.Assist nursing staff /ancillary staff as needed in both routine and emergent situations to include the transfer of patients from bed to bed, stretcher or wheelchair.A high school diploma or an equivalent is required.Two years of customer service or equivalent is required.College or equivalent degree may be substituted for required experience.Knowledge of computer keyboard required.Requires the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.Requires strong customer service and team orientation.Applicants with diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.Posted by StartWire.
