Manage and direct operations of the accounting and financial reporting functions for all insurance companies and non-insurance subsidiary companies as well as employee benefit plans and not-for-profit entities of the Shelter Insurance Companies. Manage accounting activities for investments and reinsurance assumptions and cessions. Work with auditors and examiners in supplying data and information for review of financial records. Requires the ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation.Minimum starting salary: $70,632If interested, please apply by 5/23/2017#CB# Essential Duties Manage the timely and accurate completion and filing of all statutory accounting and insurance regulatory functions for the P&C, Reinsurance and Life Companies for Shelter Insurance Companies and all GAAP financial reporting for Shelter's non-insurance companies, employee benefit plans and not-for-profit entities. Manage and review the completion of each Company's audited financial statement for approval by external auditing firms. Oversee accounting function for investment activities and preparation of investment reports. Coordinate activities with the Investment or Reinsurance Department and is responsible for researching new or different investment or reinsurance transactions so proper recording and reporting is accomplished. Provide financial analysis of statutory financial statements and management commentary. Monitor and evaluate statutory capital requirement levels. Coordinate insurance audits with outside auditors and state financial examiners and review of other regulatory compliance requirements. Analyze audit findings and develop effective responses. Facilitate a strong and effective internal control environment. Responsible for maintaining and updating internal control documentation related to insurance accounting. Responsible for recommending required changes to current data processing systems and manual procedures or policies. Direct selection, training and accounting and finance issues to internal and external staff. This position has direct contact with senior management, department heads and members of the Information Services Department. Prioritize and delegate projects and workload. Based upon banding of grades, the skills needed may vary. Training A CPA designation with either a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Accounting is required. Demonstrated interest in continuing education. Experience Minimum of five years' experience in an insurance environment or auditing background is preferred. Previous demonstrated managerial skills is required. Must demonstrate an outstanding knowledge of insurance statutory accounting and generally accepted accounting principles. Responsibilities/Principal Accountabilities Works under the general direction of the Director of Corporate Accounting. Fully accountable for ensuring accurate, timely preparation and filing of financial reports, and investment reports according to current statutory accounting principles and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Responsible for developing and maintaining appropriate internal controls for areas supervised. Responsible for staffing of area of responsibility and providing direction of assigned staff to comply with Company policies and procedures.
